The E Visa Unit at the U.S. Consulate in Toronto, Canada recently implemented a new, streamlined E-visa application process for first time E visa applicants and applicants renewing their E visas. The processing change includes the Post receiving and reviewing E-visa applications before the applicant schedules an in-person interview (the old system permitted applicants to schedule an appointment before submitting an application or supporting documentation). The Consulate anticipates that the new system will speed up processing times and assist in providing better customer service.
Under the new system, E-visa applications are sorted into two processing streams based on the time needed to review the required documentation.
1. New E Visa Applications and E Visa Renewals: First-time applicants and those applying to renew the registration status of their E-visa company are offered a “deferred interview” appointment. According to the post’s website, anyone may apply for an E-visa in Canada – this includes Canadian Citizens, Canadian Residents, and Third Country Nationals (TCNs). First-time E-1/E-2 (Treaty Trader/Investor) visa applicants and those applying to renew the registration status of their E-visa company must apply at the U.S. Consulate in Toronto. Applicants must still first create an appointment profile and pay the required visa application fee online at https://ais.usvisa-info.com. The visa interview will be deferred until the applicants has electronically submitted their application and supporting documents to the U.S. Consulate in Toronto via [email protected]. Once the application has been reviewed, which requires at least 10 business days, the U.S. Consulate will email instructions on how to schedule an appointment for the in-person visa interview. Applicants will be unable to schedule an appointment until then. 2. Employees of Registered Companies and Dependents: Employees of currently registered E-visa companies and qualifying family members of current E-visa holders, can schedule the next available visa appointments in Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa, Vancouver or Toronto. |
